Love and Intimate Relationships - 0600-SO714B (Wykład L-25/26)

The course aims to delve into how the perception of love is shaped within cultural, social, and individual contexts. A key focus is on understanding how love's perception is defined across macro-social, meso-social, and micro-social levels. The course will pay special attention to the socialization process and its role in the social definition of love. The cultural codes of love, or the ways in which culture influences our understanding of this phenomenon, will be analyzed.
Students will also explore love's place in contemporary sociological theories, its presence in sociological research, the language of love, and ways of metaphorizing love. The course will cover love from a biological perspective, through psychological concepts, to sociological and broader social conceptions. Additionally, the course will allow students to analyze various forms and phases of intimate relationships, providing a comprehensive view of the dynamic nature of love and human closeness.
